DC Medical Cannabis Registration
Eligible patients register through the District’s medical cannabis system, run by the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA). This page explains the process in plain language.
For the application itself and the latest requirements, always go to ABCA directly.
For DC Residents
ABCA registers District residents of all ages, with minors needing an adult caregiver, and there is no fee. When you apply through the portal you receive a temporary digital registration valid for 90 days that you can use right away. After staff review, ABCA issues a digital registration valid for two years.
For Non-DC Residents
Visitors 21 and older can apply for a temporary patient registration and pick a validity period that fits their trip. ABCA lists fees from $10 to $100 depending on the period, and you will need a government-issued photo ID.
Self-Certification
According to ABCA, adults 21 and older, residents and non-residents alike, can self-certify instead of getting a recommendation from a healthcare practitioner.
